Javier Lorenzo, MD, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. He serves as the Medical Director of Critical Care where he leads multidisciplinary ICU initiatives focused on patient safety, operational efficiency, and clinical excellence. He is also currrently service as the Vice Chief of Staff for Stanford Healthcare and will serve as Chief of Staff from 2026 to 2029.
Dr. Lorenzo completed his residency in anesthesiology and fellowship in critical care medicine at Stanford and has held progressive leadership roles in clinical operations, informatics, and medical staff governance. He is a recognized national and international speaker on ICU quality improvement, high-reliability practices, and interdisciplinary models of care. Dr. Lorenzo has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and abstracts and is a strong advocate for advancing physician and APP collaboration, professional wellness, and system-wide safety culture. He is recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine.
