Keith M. Shute, MD, MMM, FAAFP, is Chief Medical Officer and SVP at Androscoggin Valley Hospital (AVH) in Berlin, NH. Dr. Shute has served as CMO since 2013 and as Senior VPMA for the 10 years previously. He has practiced family medicine (inpatient and outpatient settings) in this rural community for 31 years (currently part-time).
Dr. Shute earned his MD from the University of Vermont College of Medicine in 1989. He earned a Master of Medical Management from the H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management, Carnegie Mellon University, in 2003. He completed his LEAN Yellow Belt certification in 2024.
Dr. Shute is experienced and skilled in leading groups, strategic and operational leadership, practice management, recruitment and retention of providers, provider well-being, quality and safety, credentialing for excellence, policy development, setting and achieving goals, and crucial conversations.
Dr. Shute was named as NH’s 2020 Community Star, selected by the State Offices of Rural Health on National Rural Health Day.
