Portfolio Manager for Access and Operations for Chief Operations Office

Josh Geiger is first and foremost a husband and father to three boys. He currently serves as the Portfolio Manager over Access and Operations for the Veterans Health Administration, Office of the Chief Operations Officer. In this role he collaborates with the Chief Operations Officer (COO) internal and external staff, senior VA and VHA leaders and other executives to consult, assist, advise and support the organizational strategic plans by translating the department priorities into operational plans, initiatives and performance metrics related to access and operations across the organization.
Previously, he was the Director of Operations for the National Emergency Medicine Office (NEMO). He is responsible for oversight of the national office budget, all human resources activities, strategic planning, management, developing policies and information for consumption of VA employees and internal and external partners to VA. Mr. Geiger is deeply involved with established and managing programs for the office to include core priority areas of Tele Emergency Care, Urgent Care, Geriatric Emergency Care, Emergency Ambulance Service and supporting employee engagement and support for VA field employees.
Mr. Geiger previously served as the Executive Officer for the Emergency Medicine Service under Specialty Care Program Office (11SPEC), where he also served as a Health System Specialist (11SPEC7). In this role he collaborated with field, VISN, and VHACO interdisciplinary teams and committees on a multitude of projects, offering facilitation, management, experience, leadership, and support. Mr. Geiger was an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team responsible for the establishment of the Clinical Coordination Cell. During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, he aided in the development of the clinical education series COVID in 20, now C20. As a Marine Corps Veteran, he saw a need to enhance virtual services and led work to establish and implement Tele-Emergency Care across the country. He further worked in partnership with VA, community, and academic stakeholders to develop new emergent and urgent care directives to enhance care services and expand access to urgent care in rural communities across VA.
During more than 18 years of service to VA, Mr. Geiger has provided significant contributions to health care outcomes. He has certifications in healthcare data analytics, change management and has his Lean Six Sigma green belt. Josh is committed to patient-centric health care and improved care outcomes utilizing data analysis, lean systems, and change management. Mr. Geiger is focused on the study of individuals to inform communication dynamics and provide clarity. He holds a Master of Science degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Southern New Hampshire University. He is enthusiastic about Veteran and Employee experience, evidence based and inclusive management practices.
