Dr. Chad Hatfield, PharmD, MHA, BCPS, is a distinguished leader in pharmacy administration, currently serving as the Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer at UC Davis Health. In this role, he oversees a comprehensive pharmacy enterprise comprising approximately 700+ staff members servicing acute and ambulatory clinical services throughout the enterprise, as well as a robust pharmacy residency program with 45 residents.
Dr. Hatfield's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Pacific University in 2001, followed by a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Oregon State University/Oregon Health & Science University in 2005. He further enhanced his expertise by earning a Master of Health Administration from Simmons College in 2013. His postgraduate training includes a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Scripps Mercy Medical Center.
Throughout his career, Dr. Hatfield has held pivotal roles in various esteemed institutions. He began as an Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacist at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, before advancing to Pharmacy Supervisor at Emory University Hospital, where he also directed the PGY1 Acute Care Residency Program. His tenure at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill saw him overseeing diverse clinical and operational pharmacy services.
In 2018, Dr. Hatfield joined UC Davis Health, bringing his extensive experience to lead and innovate within the pharmacy department. His commitment to advancing pharmacy practice is further exemplified by his role as Associate Dean at the UCSF School of Pharmacy, where he contributes to the development of future pharmacy leaders.
Dr. Hatfield's contributions to the field have been recognized nationally; in 2024 and 2025, he was named one of “75 Hospital and Health System Chief Pharmacy Officers to Know” by Becker’s Hospital Review. His research interests encompass pharmacy administration, operations management, clinical workflows, and staff development and wellness. He advocates for a visionary approach to pharmacy leadership, emphasizing the importance of balancing large-scale operations with patient-centered care and fiscal responsibility.
